ABOUT
Max Maus was born in 1998 in Augsburg, Germany. He lives and works in Dresden.
Since 2020, he has been studying Fine Arts at the Dresden University of Fine Arts, joining Prof. Christian Macketanz’s class in 2021.
He works in painting and drawing with an open, process-driven approach.
Each work begins with a direction, only to lose it again. A mark turns into an intervention, an intervention into a problem, a problem into a new possibility. This creates a constant back-and-forth of questions and responses, with no answer ever truly final.
His painting moves within the fundamental tensions of abstraction: the balance between dynamism and stillness, between an open composition and the moment when a work risks collapse. Often, the painting is smarter than the painter—it already knows where it wants to go. The task is to recognise this emerging potential and guide it without forcing it.
The works are not definitive answers, but visible records of a process-moments where movement, colour, and form briefly settle before shifting once again.
